Snowshoe Trails
Snowed in? With 200 inches of annual snowfall, Iron County has the honor of being the Snow Capital of Wisconsin. Iron County has more than enough snow to go around. When the snow flies, it’s time to grab the snowshoes and experience this energizing winter sport. Snowshoeing is a beginner-friendly and inexpensive hobby. All ages and abilities can participate, either solo or in a group. Iron County has several snowshoe trails to visit, plus thousands of acres of county forest to trek. Snowshoeing gets you out into the outdoors to explore nature’s beauty and stay fit during the winter.
Schomberg Park Snowshoe Trails
The Schomberg Park Snowshoe trails have 2 loops totaling 1.7 miles of easy terrain. On the one-hour hike, snowshoers see a variety of forest types and management practices. The trail is marked with blue blazers for easy navigation.
Schomberg Park, 9701N Highway 51, Hurley, WI, is located between Mercer and Hurley.
Parking is available off of Highway 51 at the south parking lot entrance.
The trails are open for snowshoeing only, not cross-country skiing.
Uller Snowshoe Trails
The Uller Trails in Pence/Iron Belt, WI, are open for snowshoeing, as well as cross-country skiing and hiking. Parking is available at Weber Lake, where snowshoers can pick their hike’s distance from the three consecutive loops.
After the hike, they can stop at the cabin and build a cozy fire. As a courtesy to cross-country skiers, snowshoers are asked to walk alongside, not on, the groomed ski tracks.
